Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies

I realize I sure have been posting a lot of Oreo/cookies & cream recipes lately. Ever since I made those delicious Cookies & Cream Cupcakes I've been baking with Oreo cookies nonstop. Can you really blame me?

I made these Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies to take to a close friend who is, unfortunately, in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. I got together yesterday evening with some friends and we picked out a card and some "trashy magazines" to take to her to help pass the time. Our friend is so vibrant and social and I can't even imagine how difficult this time in the hospital is going to be for her. We plan to continually spoil her with visits, baked goods and lots of magazines to read and movies to watch. I hope, in some small way, all the little gestures help her get through this time.

Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies
makes ~2 dozen
adapted from Picky Palate via Lovin' From the Oven

1 stick unsalted butter, cold and cubed
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
6 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ¼ cup flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
8 Oreo cookies, chopped
1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream butter and sugars until well combined. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.

Place flour, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl; whisk to combine. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, then stir in the chopped Oreo cookies and chocolate chips until just combined.

With a 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop, portion the cookies and space them at least 2 inches apart on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until cooked, but still soft in the centers. Let cool on the baking sheet for 3 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

  3. Whoa. This is like the two best things in the world combined into one. Serve it with ice cream and I may never eat another meal again.

    Seriously.

  6. I stumbled upon your blog via Epicute today and I had a question about the flower petal-shaped bowl you used in your photo of the Vietnamese Coffee Jello. I inherited the exact same bowls from my grandmother when she passed away. I was wondering where you got yours from? There aren't any markings on them (that I can see at least) and I was hoping to obtain a few more since they are the perfect size for individual desserts. Thanks!

  7. Lindsey,

I got mine at a local thrift shop in Lexington, KY. Mine are vintage, made in Japan. I know that a few stores have done remakes of the bowls (I'm not sure if they were completely identical or not), but I figure your grandmother's bowls were vintage as well. I don't know too much about their history, but I believe the maker was Otagiri. If you do a search for "vintage Japanese lotus bowl" on eBay or Etsy, you should see quite a few of them available in various sizes and colors. Also, if you have any local vintage or thrift shops, you may want to check those out as well since the bowls usually sell at pretty high prices online.

  8. Thanks! I happened to drop one of mine when hand washing it and broke it. I've got a lot of them in my basement (she had quite a collection of them) but I love the style and design of them. It bugged me to not know what to search for to track down more of them. I greatly appreciate the info and I'll keep up with your blog as well. I'm a KY native and live ~1 hr from Lex, so perhaps I'll make it over that way to check out your jewelry sometime soon.

  10. Genevie,

Yes, the recipe calls for 6 tablespoons of white granulated sugar and 6 tablespoons of light brown sugar. I'll edit the recipe to make it a bit more clear. Thanks for pointing that out!

  11. I did a cookie inspired by this recipe from Lovin' From the Oven as well! Except I added instant oreo pudding mix and white chocolate chips instead of semi sweet. Yours look amazing and your blog is beautiful, keep up the great work :)
