March 2013 Glam Bag

The March 2013 Ipsy bag was filled with travel-friendly products for a "Great Escape."  It's time to get away from the drab cold of winter and pack your things for a nice little break with your March Glam Bag.  We've chosen awesome beauty and skincare products that will make your trip towards the sunshine, sea, snow, and more a much more memorable affair.

In addition to the monthly bag, this month I received 5 samples which beautifully fit the "Great Escape" theme as they'll all travel-friendly and portable.

My March 2013 Ipsy bag included the following samples:

LA Fresh - Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes ($1.99/8 wipes)
La Fresh Travel Lite portable towelette wipes are perfect for jetsetters, go-getters, outdoor enthusiasts and multitaskers everywhere.  Towelette packets are small in size, designed for practicality and are easy to apply discreetly.

Sample size: 8 wipes
Sample value: $1.99

These are a perfect, portable size!  I always use makeup wipes at night to remove my makeup before cleansing and I look forward to giving these a try, especially since I haven't tried any wipes yet that I've been head over heels with.  I'll be doing a little traveling later this month and I think I'll keep these on hand for my trip.

Juice Beauty - Hydrating Mist ($22.00/6.75 oz)
Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist tones, hydrates, and refreshes your face and hair while on the go, anytime of the day.  Hydrate with the refreshing blends of organic juices for a fresh, radiant complextion.

Sample size: 1 oz
Sample value: $3.26

I've tried a few of Juice Beauty's products in past Birchboxes and have really enjoyed them.  I love that this sample is a generous size and is conveniently packaged.  I'll get a ton of use out of this and I love that it's a multi-use product.

GlamRX - Mini Freestyle Palette
The GlamRX Mini Freestyle Palette is a unique, practical, pocket sized palette featuring a magnetic base that holds your own eyeshadow, bronzer, blush or whatever you need for the perfect touch ups on the go.

Sample size: 1 palette
Sample value: unknown (this is an Ipsy exclusive product, ~$7 based on similar products)

I'm super excited about this mini palette!  I've been wanting to purchase a ZPalette for a while now, but since I don't have a ton of loose products and I'm still a little nervous about depotting items in my collection, I've yet to get one.  This small size is perfectly travel-friendly and is a great way to store a few of your favorite powder products.

Yaby - Eyeshadow Refill in Seashell & Azalea Petal ($3.15/3 g)
Whether you want to make a dramatic statement or just add a veil of color to your eyes, the yaby eyeshadow refills are extremely easy to work with.  Can be used wet or dry and the smooth texture allows blending with ease.

Sample size: unknown (about .5 g each)
Sample value: unknown (about $1.05)

As you can see from the swatches below, the Yaby eyeshadows I received, even when heavily swatched, barely had any pigmentation.  Perhaps these will fair better worn over a good primer, but I don't have much hope for them.  Honestly, I have shades practically identical to these already in my collection that have beautiful pay off, so I probably won't even bother to make these work.

Total box value: ~$13.30

Swatches of the Yaby Eyeshadow Refills in Azalea Petal and Seashell.  Unfortunately, even after several swipes, these shadows have hardly any opacity.  I'm definitely not impressed by the quality.

Overall, this month is definitely more on the underwhelming side.  The value of the bag this month is incredibly disappointing compared to past months.  The nautical themed bag we received is a little cheap and cheesy and most of the products received this month (with the exception of the Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist) are from lower end brands.  However, aside from the huge disappointment of the eyeshadows, I'll get use out of everything I received this month so I'm fairly happy with the bag all around.

If you received a March Ipsy bag, what did you think of the products?

  1. I had the same sentiment you did, fairly underwhelmed. I like the spray but it has a high volume/spray, it feels like I'm getting blasted in the face.

I have a question: I just started getting Ipsy bags in January and haven't been very impressed. Would you recommend a GLOSSYBOX subscription over an Ipsy subscription, and is it worth the extra money?

    1. I used the Hydrating Mist this morning and definitely know what you mean when you say it feels like being blasted in the face. I wonder if the spray is more gentle on the full-size bottle.

Over the past few months I think I've been more happy overall with my Ipsy bags than GLOSSYBOX. GLOSSYBOX can be downright amazing some months, but when they're not so great it's even more of a let down since they're double the price. That said, it's definitely a personal preference. I have shared every GLOSSYBOX I received since their launch on my blog if you're curious to look back to see what they've sent out and the value of the boxes each month, etc. (I've also posted all my Ipsy bags since I signed back up in November.) Choosing between the two is hard since I do enjoy them both. I think GLOSSYBOX's best months are definitely better than Ipsy's best months, but I feel like I've had an equal number of so-so months with them both.

  2. Glad I didn't get this month's bag, however I liked February's bag. I will probably try next month again hopefully they have better samples!

    1. I feel like a lot of people will have issues with the bag this month. In the past it seems like they've been good about listening to feedback and responding to please the subscribers, so hopefully they'll take notice that we weren't thrilled with the decrease in value and the lackluster products.
