July 2013 Birchbox

The July 2013 "Power Play" Birchbox is all about "helping you take control of any situation, and to make the most of every minute--on the clock or off duty."  Some of the samples from the boxes this month were inspired by the characters of the USA series Suits.

In my July Birchbox I received:

Caldrea - Body Lotion ($22.00/8 oz)
Fast-absorbing lotions in three ethereal scents.  Tea Olive Lime, Aloe Water Apricot, and Coconut fig.

Sample size: (2) 0.25 oz packets
Sample value: $1.37

While I'm not usually crazy about receiving foil packet samples, I'm pleased that these actually appear to contain the perfect amount of lotion for one full application, so these will probably be great.  Since I haven't tried these yet, I can't say with certainty, but the description of this scent sounds divine, "Green yet sensual, citrus is deepened with vanilla, orchid, and tea."  I'm looking forward to using these!

DDF - Acne Control Treatment ($44.00/1.7 oz)
An overnight treatment with purifying salicylic acid to tackle blemishes and inflammation.

Sample size: 0.5 oz
Sample value: $12.94

I was so happy to see this sample in my box this month!  As someone who suffers from mild acne and clogged pores, this is something I'm really excited to try.  I'm also thrilled that the sample is a very generous half ounce.

I.C.O.N. - India Oil ($40.00/3.8 oz)
An aromatic blend of argan and other nourishing oils that strengthens and silkifies strands.

Sample size: 0.34 oz
Sample value: $3.58

I love using oils like this in moderation on wet hair to tame frizz and add shine and softness.  I do wish the sample was a little larger, but this should be enough for a week or two of styling my hair.

theBalm Cosmetics - InStain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush ($22.00/0.09 oz)
Inspired by the best-selling Stainiac, this budge-proof pigment lasts from sunup to sundown.  Dust sparingly onto the apples of the cheeks.  A little goes a long way!

Sample size: 0.018 oz
Sample value: $4.40

I am thrilled to have received a sample of one of the new InStain blushes from theBalm.  I've heard lots of raves about these from the YouTube community and have been dying to try them.  I really love the other powder products that I've tried from theBalm and thought the packaging and shade range of these InStain blushes looked great.  I received the shade Swiss Dot which is a warm matte peach.  My only complaint about these samples is that the pan is only about the size of a dime and makes applying the blush sample pretty awkward.  That said, I'm definitely going to be saving my Birchbox points to purchase one or two of these blushes!

Birchbox - Bobby Pins ($5.00/set of 6)
We designed these patterned pins to add style to your summer hair with minimal effort.  Jazz up simple ponytails, or use to secure errant bangs or layers.

Sample size: 2 pins
Sample value: $1.67

These bobby pins are a generous, but not obnoxiously large size and have great hold.  These sort of "extras" are the kind I enjoy and love to see in my boxes!

Total box value: $23.96

I loved my Birchbox this month!  All of the samples were a hit with me and I'm very pleased with the selection I received.  I've been pretty happy with Birchbox lately.

What did you receive in your July Birchbox?  Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Okay, you got a really nice Birchbox...Mine was totally different.
2pkts Body Drench Quick Tan Gradual Self Tanning lotion. 5oz each
Number 4 Super Comb Prep and Protect
    WEI Purifying Mud Mask
    Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow
    WEI Pomegranate Buffing Beads.
I am always amazed at how different the boxes are and how much stuff other people get that I would actually use. I will say that, having had my subscription for about a year,I've done okay. Last month, I got a whole seperate box of Salma Hayek brand samples, several full size, so Im not going to complain. I always save the stuff I won't use and hand it off to friends. Glad you enjoyed your box!!

    1. Lee, because Birchbox has so many subscribers, they send out something like 30-40 different box variations every month! They tend to cycle products so some subscribers receive a sample one month, then that same sample may be in boxes for many months later. I definitely have good months and bad months (and some downright awful months). I've been with Birchbox since early 2011. It does continue to frustrate me how uneven in value their boxes can be from one variation to the next each month. LOL, I've been happier with my boxes since I stopped doing research on what others received each month. I used to get SO much box envy. ;)
