May 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

It's been absolutely ages since my last post.  I have missed blogging terribly and am excited to be back!  I've decided to start sharing snippets of my life beyond the occasional cooking adventure.  My May GLOSSYBOX arrived today and I couldn't wait to share the contents with you all!

I've been a beauty subscription addict for the last year or more, starting when I signed up for Birchbox in April of 2011.  I've tried out a few services since then: Birchbox, NewBeauty TestTube, Beautyfix, myglam, Julep Maven, and now GLOSSYBOX.  I've had a love/hate relationship with many of the subscription services out there (Birchbox, for example, can be especially hit or miss for me), but none of the services had me as excited upon their launch as GLOSSYBOX.

For those who haven't heard of GLOSSYBOX, they may very well be the most widespread of the subscription services out there, servicing over 15 countries worldwide!  They finally launched in the USA with their May 2012 box being the first offered to the public for purchase.  For $21/month they offer "5 exciting travel-size beauty products" from "the crème de la crème of international brands."

 The first thing I noticed about GLOSSYBOX that really made them stand out among other services I have tried is their packaging.  While I feel that several other companies have excelled in offering beautiful packaging, GLOSSYBOX was above and beyond anything I'd seen to date.

Inside an adorable cardboard box printed with the GLOSSYBOX logo is a very sturdy and lovely pale pink box.  Such a pretty box would definitely be kept and used again.  I could even see myself using it as a gift box as the GLOSSYBOX branding is simple and chic.

Inside the contents of the box were wrapped in elegant black tissue paper and tied with a soft pink bow.  Enclosed with the products is a card introducing GLOSSYBOX and listing the month's contents.

I can't express how impressed I was with the packaging!  What a treat is was to open such a precious parcel.

Nestled safely were five "samples" and an extra treat.

I was really impressed and excited about the contents of the May GLOSSYBOX!  Each and every product is one that I'll use and look forward to doing so.  I'm crazy about the Zoya polish in Lara--such a pretty pink for summer.

The Burberry lipstick, while tiny, has the most gorgeous packing with the iconic Burberry print not only on the exterior lipstick packing, but imprinted on the bullet itself!  The lipstick is almost too darling to use.  The copper shade looks like it'll be a universally flattering neutral.

My first impressions of the May GLOSSYBOX are high!  I'll be back next month to share the contents of my June box and perhaps give a little update on what I thought about the products from this month, once I have a chance to really try them out.

November 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

The November GLOSSYBOX USA was full of products to "make you a standout among the crowd of little black dresses... and keep you looking fabulous from day to night."  Afterall, 'tis the season to be glossy, you should look your best!

I had a few issues with my GLOSSYBOX this month.  First, when my box arrived, it was missing the NuMe Argan Oil.  After contacting GLOSSYBOX, they happily sent a replacement for the missing product.  My other major complaint was that I received the exact same blusher that I had gotten in my October box.  Personally, I don't believe that any subscription service should send repeat products to customers, ESPECIALLY two months in a row!  When I contacted GLOSSYBOX about the missing Argan Oil, I complained about the repeat blush and requested another sample be sent; however, they claimed they couldn't/wouldn't send a replacement.  In my opinion, they really should have done something to fix this mistake.

Other than those issues (the first I've really experienced since signing up with the company), I was pretty pleased with my box.  I've never tried nail polish appliques, so I'm curious to try these from Incoco.  I received some from them in a past Birchbox, but they were a hideous pattern and I gave them to a friend.  The ones I received in my GLOSSYBOX are a very lovely red with a subtle shimmer.  They'll be perfect for the holidays.  When I first looked at the Illamasqua pencil I received, I thought it was a brown eyeliner, which was disappointing as I have a TON of neutral eyeliners.  Fortunately, after swatching it on my hand, I saw that it was actually a gorgeous deep berry lip pencil!  This will definitely come in handy with some of the dark berry lipsticks I have been enjoying this fall.

June 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

My June GLOSSYBOX arrived a few days ago!  For those who are curious to know more about GLOSSYBOX and/or are interested in seeing photos of the lovely GLOSSYBOX packaging, check out my post on the May GLOSSYBOX.

This is the second month that GLOSSYBOX has been open to subscribers in the US.  I absolutely loved the May box (I'll share my thoughts on a few of the products from the May box at the end of this post).  The June box didn't thrill me as much right off the bat, but I'm excited to try the products regardless.

This month's box theme was Summer Simplicity.  "As the weather heats up and you head to the beach, it's time to get back to basics and let you natural skin glow.  This month's GLOSSYBOX allows you to do so; treat yourself to lush products that will revitalize your face, pamper the body, enrich your locks and add a luxurious aroma of summer notes.  With your natural beauty restored, all you'll need to worry about is which bikini to wear."

As with last month, the box contained five deluxe samples and one "extra."  In my June Glossybox, I received:

1. Ahava - Mineral Botanic Hibiscus & Fig Velvet Cream Wash ($22/17.0 oz)

My first impressions of this month's box are so-so.  The Ahava Cream Wash smells lovely and I look forward to trying it out.  The First Aid Beauty Shave Cream is something I will certainly use, but as I don't have sensitive skin, I can't imagine it will be anything ground breaking for me.  I'm excited to try the Wella Treatment as I'm always up for trying a new hair moisturizer/conditioner.  The other products are kind of a miss for me.

The Orfa Cosmetics Eye Shadow ICE seems like a really great product (I swatched this on my hand the day I received my GLOSSYBOX and proceeded to work in the yard, wash my hands, etc. and it would not budge until I removed it with eye makeup remover), but the color I received is a very dark matte charcoal gray.  I don't imagine I'll get much use out of the product since I rarely wear dark or smokey eye makeup.

The Vbeauté samples are so tiny, I doubt there will be enough product for even one application.  Even if they are lovely, I don't think it's possible to see the results of a skincare product after just one minimal use.

Overall, this month initially seems a little lackluster, but who knows, I may end up loving one of the products or figuring out how to make the seriously long-wearing Eye Shadow ICE work for me.  I'll let you know my final thoughts on the products next month, once I've had time to try them out.

June 2013 GLOSSYBOX USA

The June 2013 American Beauty GLOSSYBOX was curated by fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw.  The American Beauty GLOSSYBOX features some of Dallas' 'favorite new beauty products culled from beloved American brands, all manufactured in the United States.'

For this special edition GLOSSYBOX, Dallas created a fierce and gorgeous illustration of the "Glossy Girl" to grace the lid to this month's box.

My June 2013 GLOSSYBOX included the following items:

c. Booth - Honey Almond Nourishing Dry Oil Mist ($8.00/4 oz)
Elegant, nourishing oils absorb quickly into skin to smooth and soften while providing hydration.  This dramatically lightweight dry oil for face and body imparts a light, lasting glow for instant radiance.  Infused with a gentle, sweet blend of honey and almond, it's the ultimate aromatic indulgence for the skin and senses!

With the first ingredient of this dry oil mist being a silicone and it containing a number of dyes and well as fragrance, this is certainly not a product I would ever use on my face.  The scent seems fairly mild and pleasant and it seems to dry fairly quickly on the skin.  I'll probably use this on my legs throughout the summer to hydrate them and add a little glow.

Oscar de la Renta - Essential Luxuries ($150.00/3.4 oz)
Inspired by the designer's mastery of fashion, Oscar de la Renta introduces a tailored line of six unique scents imbued with his love of beauty and luxury.  Comprised of specially sourced ingredients of the most exceptional quality, each fragrance echoes the lose connections to Oscar's vibrant life and loves, and perfectly speaks his language--find joy, be sparkling, feel gorgeous.

While I'm not crazy about receiving perfume samples, I think it was generous and clever for GLOSSYBOX to send a sample of each fragrance from Oscar de la Renta's Essential Luxuries line.  Each sample comes with a spray, which I prefer and find incredibly convenient.  I'm not sure how much product each of these samples contains since the packaging is opaque.  They don't feel or sound very full, but I imagine there is enough product in each sample for at least a couple of uses as these scents are very powerful.  Of the six samples, from a quick sniff, I think I may like 2 or 3 of them.  For the most part they are a little too overpowering for my taste and I can tell some of them would cause me a migraine if I wore them.

Philip B. - Styling Gel ($6.00/2 oz)
Philip B. products revitalize every type of hair while evoking a warming, cooling or refreshing sensation and delivering glossy, radiant hair.  The brand's botanical products cater to a broad range of hair types - dry/damages, colored/chemically treated, thinning/volumizing, wavy/curly/frizzy, flat/very fine, flaky scalp, oily and normal.  You will receive one Philip B. product in the box.

I'm pretty bummed to have received the Styling Gel from this range as I absolutely never use gels on my fine, straight hair (that I prefer to be silky and touchable).  From the variety of products I've seen other subscribers receive, this is the one item that isn't something I would have used.

SpaRitual - Favorites Nail Polish ($12.00/15 ml)
SpaRitual offers a wide range of fun, sophisticated and modern shades to help you express the most colorful side of you.  The nail lacquers are crafted out of naturally formulated, vegan, certified-organic and fair-trade ingredients, resulting in superior texture and quality.  Colors will vary.

I received the shade Whirlwind Romance, a sheer pink shimmer with a slight blue duo chrome.  Honestly, I hate sheer pink polishes.  I especially am not a fan of the blue duo chrome in Whirlwind Romance.  Something about this shade feels a little old and mature for my taste.  I'll probably pass this along to a friend who will get use out of it.

Tarte - Complexion Enhancing Lipstick ($14.50/0.12 oz)
Get total lip therapy in a beautiful nude shade that uniquely you!  These creamy lipsticks have a glossy, tinted core that gives the appearance of fuller-looking, luscious lips.  Thanks to complexion-enhancing pigments and emollient waxes, lips have never appeared more youthful.

The Tarte Compexion Enhancing Lipstick comes in two shades: one for "Fair-to-Light" skin tones and one for "Medium-to-Tan" skin tones.  I'm a bit disappointed that I received the shade "Medium-to-Tan" considering I'm very fair.  GLOSSYBOX continues to disappoint me by clearly disregarding the information in my beauty profile.  Fortunately I do still like this lipstick shade and find it flattering on myself, despite it not being the shade I should have received based on my profile and the purpose of the product.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in this month's curated GLOSSYBOX.  While I do like the color and texture of the Tarte Lipstick, the other products were misses for me.  Had I received a different Philip B. product and a different shade of the SpaRitual polish, I probably would have been happier with my box.  The types of products sent out this month weren't bad, I just wasn't thrilled with the particular selection sent to me.

I'm curious to know, if you subscribe to GLOSSYBOX, do you find they send you appropriate products based on the information from you beauty profile?  I am constantly sent darker products than anyone with my fair skin tone should receive, which is utterly frustrating.

I have to say, after the amazing August GLOSSYBOX, I was curious to see if this month would be as impressive.  If you ask me, it certainly didn't disappoint!

 Another great month, GLOSSYBOX!  I have some seriously oily skin and I am beyond stoaked to try the Mattifying Gel.  I'm also really excited to try the Missha BB Cream.  This will be my first time trying an authentic Asian BB Cream.  The shade I received (No. 21) looks like it may be a tad dark for my fair complexion, but it blends seamlessly into my arm so I have hopes it will work well on my face.  I never get particularly excited about shampoo and conditioner, but I'll give these a go.  The GLOSSY Pink lipstick looks like a lovely shade that I'll get tons of use out of.  Unfortunately mine arrived a little beat up (the lipstick itself have loosened from the bullet and had gotten a bit smashed against the cap), but still useable.

August 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

If you aren't subscribed to GLOSSYBOX, get ready to be jealous, ladies.  The theme of the August GLOSSYBOX was Pure Luxury and I'd say they hit the nail on the head with this one!

Wow, GLOSSYBOX, just wow!  I simply cannot believe we received over $90 of great products this month.  They didn't kid when they claimed the Pure Luxury theme.  I'm so happy to try everything I received this month.  While the shades I received in the Illamasqua Nail Varnish (Radium) and Ellis Faas lip product (L109 Pale Coffee) aren't shades I'd probably pick up for myself, I'm excited to give them a try.  I think the Pale Coffee lip color will be a nice, warm nude shade for fall.  The nail varnish is a bit brighter and greener than I usually go for, but it's a unique color and I've been wanting to try an Illamasqua polish for ages and here's by chance to try out the formula before I splurge on one of their polishes.  I'm really looking forward to trying the hair and skincare items as well.  I'll let you know what I thought of everything in next month's post.

March 2013 GLOSSYBOX USA

The March GLOSSYBOX was Spring Fling themed, "Spring is everywhere, and here at GLOSSYBOX we couldn't be more excited!  For us, it's all about renewal - updating your look, refreshing your skin.  To help you shake off winter, we've designed an array of delightful springtime beauty."  Well, I think GLOSSYBOX is a little wishful in their thinking when they claim "spring is everywhere" when much of the country, including my neck of the woods, is still experiencing frequent snow.  I'm longing for spring as much as the next gal so I'm looking forward to some fresh, fun spring products!

My March GLOSSYBOX included five samples from makeup to skincare and haircare and one "gift certificate."  Overall it was a pretty diverse box, which I typically appreciate.

I received the following samples in my March GLOSSYBOX:

Elite Models - Intensity Eye Pencil in Secret Grey ($14.00/.04 oz)
This ultra soft and creamy eye pencil from France ensures there will be no tugging involved when you achieve the perfect eye line.  Its waterproof and long lasting formula can withstand the most extreme of climates, which will definitely come in handy as the weather warms up.

This eyeliner is creamy, opaque, and sets fairly quickly to a smudge-proof finish.  The shade I received, Secret Grey has a really lovely, subtle shimmer and a medium grey tone that can be easily layered to achieve an almost black boldness.  The quality seems great and I look forward to wearing this!

Koh Gen Do Cosmetics - Oriental Plants Emollient Cream ($123.00/1.06 oz)
This rich, moisturizing face cream melts into skin, protecting and nourishing it from dryness.  It is a well-kept secret for fresh dewy skin that contains vitamin A and botanical extracts, which leaves your skin feeling sooth and looking radiant.

I'm always skeptical of expensive facial creams.  Especially after the $225 facial cream from my January GLOSSYBOX proved nothing special, I really have doubts that any pricey facial cream is that special (at least for someone my age who doesn't have aging skin concerns).  This cream has no scent and a very light texture.  I haven't applied it to my face yet, but when rubbed into the back of my hand, it absorbs almost immediately and, honestly, doesn't seem very moisturizing.  The lightweight texture may end up being lovely for someone with oily skin like myself, but I'll have to give it a proper try to see.

ModelCo - Cheek & Lip Tint in Rosy Red ($24.00/10ml)
This cheek and lip tint provides the right amount of color for a natural rosy flush, just in time for spring!  This gel formulation leaves you with "just pinched" cheeks and sexy, lightly stained lips.

When I first saw the vibrant pink color of the packaging, I was a little nervous about this tint.  However, the actual color proves more warm and rosy and less hot pink.  I find the tint very sheer, almost annoyingly so.  It takes a few coats to really show an obvious flush.  However, for those who have trouble working with cheek stains, the sheer, buildable coverage might be the perfect, user-friendly formula.

Prestiche - Essential Oil Bar Soap in Green Machine ($16.99/125 g)
This bar soap is made from the highest quality all-natural ingredients, which are hand selected by seasoned botanists, herbalists and cosmetic gurus.  It will soothe even those with extremely sensitive skin, as it contains rich essential oils and vitamins that work to leave skin soft, refreshed, and aromatic.

First of all, let me just say that the label on this soap is misleading.  The sample is not 125g as shown on the label (it's actually 54 g).  That aside, the scent isn't my favorite, but the ingredient list looks promising so I'll give this a go to see what I think.

In addition to the soap, there was also a $40 Prestiche "gift certificate" included in my box.  The $40 can be redeemed toward anything on their website; however, it cannot be applied toward tax and shipping (which is a steep $12), so I couldn't consider it a true gift certificate since you're still required to cover some costs with any purchase made.

Sebastian Professional - Shaper Fierce ($17.00/10.6 oz)
From unkempt bed heads to high-fashion chignons, this shaping spray provides buildable, flexible hold while maintaining a high-shine gloss - a definite must-have for keeping your fashionable 'dos in place.

Not much to say about this hairspray since I've yet to give it a try.  I'm not a huge fan of firm hold hairsprays as they tend to weigh my fine hair down and actually cause curls to fall flat faster.  I do like them occasionally for updo's so I'll give this a go for that.

Overall, I'm on the fence with this box.  I really could do without the soap and facial cream; not really excited about those.  The hairspray is a whatever product for me - I'll definitely use it but don't expect to be wowed by the firm-hold formula.  The eyeliner is pretty and is fairly unique among the ever-growing collection of eyeliners I've accumulated.  As for the cheek + lip tint, I'll have to play around with that a bit more to see how well it works on my skin.  Would I have paid the $21 subscription cost of the box had I known the products I'd be receiving?  Definitely not.

I tend to prefer my hair to be soft, shiny, and curled under.  I haven't went for "just-back-from-the-beach" waves in years.  I think the look is really cute and playful on others, but it's not my typical style. I may give this product a try one day soon when I don't have anything special planned just in case my hair ends up looking like a hot mess.  I'll report back if I end up loving this product and become a beachy waves convert.

Bvlgari - Eau Parfumée au thé Blanc Tea Bag for Bath ($9.50/0.5 oz)

I'm apprehensive to open the foil packet on this product to smell it.  I've never been a fan of any of the Bvlgari scent I've smelled in the past (which have been several), so I doubt I'd like this one either.  Nothing against the brand--they seem lovely and quality--it's just that all their scents are a little too strong and "old" for my personal taste.  I think I'll keep this neatly packaged and send it along to my mom with some other products as part of a little Mother's Day care package.

The Honest Company - Honest Organic Lip Balm ($10.95/3 pack .15 oz)

I'm really impressed with the simple, natural ingredient list on this unscented balm.  It glides on the lips and feels moisturizing without being greasy.  I also appreciate that the price on these is quite reasonable, so I wouldn't hesitate to pick these up if I enjoy the balm with continued use.

A soft, baked powder formula that effortlessly provides a glow-from-within effect and looks beautiful on all skin tones.

Honestly, I'm not thrilled about this blush.  The color isn't particularly special and the texture and pigmentation isn't anything to write home about either.  I would pass over this in the store and wouldn't give it a second thought, especially considering it retails for $22.00.

This body wash contains an invigorating blend of coffee and mint that helps revitalize and balance the body and the mind while keeping skin superbly clean.

The coffee and mint combination of this body wash had me very curious.  Upon smelling it, I was a bit underwhelmed that the scent didn't pop more.  Perhaps it will really shine once I give this a try in the shower.  Overall, not an especially thrilling product to try (and I certainly wouldn't considering spending $28.00 on the full size product as I think that's a little ridiculous for body wash), but I'll give it a whirl.  I love the idea of a coffee scented body wash as little wake-me-up in the morning, so hopefully I'll love this.

Le Métier de Beauté - Replenishing Daily Solution ($225.00/1.7 oz)

I received this same product in my January "Man Repeller" GLOSSYBOX.  After completely using up that sample and thinking nothing of the product, I'm not too thrilled to see it pop up in another box again so soon.  (This is the second time I've received repeat products in close succession from GLOSSYBOX.)  I found this moisturizer a little heavy and, at the same time, not very moisturizing.  I'll pass this along to my mother as well and perhaps it'll work better with her skin type.

All in all, not too excited about my box this month.  The variety of products and value where there, but I just personally don't care for the individual products themselves.  The lip balm I'll thoroughly enjoy, and I'll probably like the bath wash as well, but those products hardly add up to $6.00 in value.  The rest of the box was full of items I'll likely pass on to others who may or may not like them.  I'm pretty bummed to have spent $21.00 on this month's box.  After completing tons of surveys and having a few friends try GLOSSYBOX using my referral, I've finally acquired enough "GLOSSYDOTS" to get my next box free.  After that I'm honestly considering canceling my subscription.  I just haven't felt lately that I've consistently gotten enough value from my boxes to merit the monthly cost.

Martha Stewart Living {Summer Essentials} GLOSSYBOX

I recently ordered a one-time limited edition Martha Stewart Living Summer Essentials GLOSSYBOX.  When I first saw that this GLOSSYBOX was for sale, they hadn't revealed what the products included would be (and I didn't realize that they eventually would).  From the description of the box, I was under the impression that it would include products that Martha herself picked as essentials for summer entertaining.  I love Martha.  I was pretty excited.  The purchase of the box ($15 - though I purchased mine for a discount via Ebates) also included a 6 month subscription to Martha Stewart Living, so I found it hard to pass up.

Unfortunately upon receiving the box and discovering the contents, I think the beauty products included were just picked based on a sponsorship with Proctor & Gamble, and not so much Martha Stewart recommended products.  More on that later.

Included with the products was a double-sided card with various tips and picks for summer entertaining.  I thought this was a nice addition; however, none of the information provided was particularly new or insightful for someone who has done any sort of entertaining before.  Perhaps these would be helpful for someone who hasn't done much entertaining in the past...

But I think most folks who have been around the block know about using galvanized tubs as a "functional, fashionable way to serve drinks" or lanterns, tiki torches, and decorative candles as mood lighting.  I was sort of expecting something a little more clever and original.

On top of the three beauty products was a little bonus makeup bag to hold your "essentials."

The first beauty product in the Summer Essentials box is the first of two from Olay.

Olay - 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths ($6.99)
These soft textured, fragrance-free cloths for sensitive skin gently cleanse and remove make-up for a fresh clean feeling while conditioning to soothe skin with light Olay moisturizers.

I briefly used some facial cleansing cloths similar to these (perhaps even from Olay) in high school.  I enjoyed the convenience at the time, but haven't used them since.  I really love the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash, so I don't plan to replace that anytime soon, but these cloths will be nice to have on hand for lazy late nights or for traveling when I don't feel like carrying a big, bulky bottle of face wash.

Olay - Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($9.99)
Help prevent premature skin damage with broad spectrum SPF 15 UVA/UVB sunscreen.  Conditions skin surface with vitamin E and Aloe to maintain healthy-looking skin.  Gentle formula with zinc oxide provides 8 hours of hydration.

I'm a little apprehensive to give this a try as a lot of moisturizers with sunscreen break me out.  I'm really happy with the Origins A Perfect World SPF 25 moisturizer that I've been using the past few months (I got a free 1 oz. tube of it from Sephora on Earth Day a couple of years ago).  If I'm going to wear a sunscreen on my face (i.e. if I'm planning on being outside at all for more than 15 minutes), I really prefer to wear something with at least SPF 25-30, in addition to SPF in my color cosmetics.  I'll probably stick to Origins and COOLA for my facial sunscreen, but this will be a nice lightweight option for my neck, chest and arms on days when I won't be exposed for very long.  This product seems fairly lightweight and quick-absorbing from a little test on the back of my hand.  It's a generous size and at only under $10 for 6 oz. it's certainly budget-friendly.

Pantene Pro-V - Heat Potion Serum ($7.99)
Helps defend against heat damage before it starts, using weightless heat-activated oil.

This heat protective serum is probably the product I'm most excited about trying.  I'm less picky with my haircare than I am with my skin, so I'm more willing to give this a go.  I like that it provides shine and manageability while providing heat protection.  I've been crazy in love with the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Nourishing Styling Treatment (I got a little sample a while back at ULTA and love how silky soft it leaves my locks), so I'm curious to see how this will compare.  I'm definitely ready and willing to purchase the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal once my sample runs out.  At around $22 for a little over 4 oz, I think it's very reasonably priced as that amount will last me ages.

Along with the products were two cards, one with a discount code for 15% off a GLOSSYBOX subscription.  I don't plan to take advantage of that anytime soon as I've been very happy with my decision to cancel my monthly GLOSSYBOX subscription.  Additionally, there was a signup card included to start or renew a subscription of Martha Stewart Living.  I'm a little confused as to whether we need to fill out this card in order to claim the 6 month subscription that was included with the box purchase, or if that subscription is automatically set up after having paid for the box (I'm assuming the latter).

Including the 6 month subscription of Martha Stewart Living (which would be $29.94 if you assume the value of the cover price), the total value of this Summer Essentials box is $54.91.  I personally wouldn't rate the value quite that high since the magazine is easy to purchase at a discounted rate and the Proctor & Gamble products can be purchased on sale with a coupon for easily half the retail price or less.  However, given that I only paid $12.25 for the box after my Ebates discount, I think it was a good deal.  I am still pretty bummed that I feel like GLOSSYBOX was originally a little misleading in their description of the box, implying that it would contain products that Martha herself deemed essentials for summer entertaining.  I haven't been sucked into buying any of the limited edition GLOSSYBOXes in the past, and only really was this time because I'm a big Martha Stewart fan and I figured in the least $12.25 (again, my discounted purchase price) was a pretty good price for a 6 month subscription of Martha Stewart Living.

The December GLOSSYBOX was all about essentials for the holiday party season.  "This luxurious, varied collection of favorites is your secret arsenal to keeping it glamorous, glitzy and glossy this holiday party season."

In the spirit of the holidays, this month's box came wrapped with festive tissue paper and a sweet red bow.  Opening the box felt like receiving an early Christmas present.  GLOSSYBOX packaging never fails to disappoint.

This month's GLOSSYBOX definitely held a wide variety of samples to try, but I'm not over-the-moon excited about any of the samples this month.  I have a sensitive nose (strong scents give me headaches) and, unfortunately, the scent of the perfume, bath salts, and bath & shower oil are all a little strong for my liking.  The mark. lipstick is nice, but the color reminds me a lot of the Kryolan for Glossybox lipstick from the September box and the ModelCo. lipstick from the October box (all are very similar neutral rosy shades-pretty and wearable, but a little boring month after month).  The Zoya polish is a  fantastic addition, though I do already own a few similar silver glitters in my large polish collection.  The inclusion of a JewelMint piece was fun and festive, though I expect a lot of folks will be receiving pieces that aren't exactly their style (which is my case here with this ring - it's a little more earthy and Southwestern than my usual retro, ladylike style).

All in all, I do think this month had a nice variety of products.  Unfortunately none of them happen to be entirely my cup of tea.

January 2013 GLOSSYBOX USA: Man Repeller Collaboration

The January 2013 GLOSSYBOX USA arrived a little later than usual.  The box for January was a collaboration between GLOSSYBOX and the fashion blogger Man Repeller.  Instead of the usual pale pink box, the Man Repeller collab was metallic silver with a cheeky faux-stamped "the man repeller" logo.

Inside I was very pleased to see a generous assortment of items including two full size products and five deluxe samples.  The items included this month are some of Leandra's (aka the Man Repeller) favorite products.

Of course, I'm over the moon about this month's GLOSSYBOX!  It was good timing, too, because I had been a little underwhelmed with the past couple of months.  The full size Tarte lipstick and OPI polish have me thrilled.  I heard so many great things about this line of lipsticks from Tarte when they released but had yet to try them.  The shade I received is a little more orange and bold than my usual red lip choice, but it'll be a nice change to the darker, cooler reds of my collection.  The OPI Liquid Sand polishes seem like a unique and fun way to add texture to your nails.  And for those who aren't a big fan of the matte look, I have a feeling these would look gorgeous with a glossy topcoat.

I've previously tried the Fresh serum via a teeny foil sample from Birchbox.  Of course, being a such a tiny sample, I never got much of a chance to really give the product a try.  With my oily skin, I'm looking forward to having a bigger sample to better test this product.  Also, I'm really curious to see what kind a magic a $225 facial lotion can offer.  I'll be transferring the foil sample to an empty cosmetic pot so I can ration the product and treat it like liquid gold.

July 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

My third GLOSSYBOX arrived recently (see what I received in my May and June boxes), and I have to say I'm pretty excited about this month's samples.

The July box theme was Summer Nights.  "After a sizzling day in the sun, there is nothing better than a cool summer night.  This month's GLOSSYBOX offers you essentials you'll need to indulge in products that show off your sun kissed skin and hair and enhance sultry eyes.  Afterwards, throw on your sexy sandals and dance the night away under the shimmering summer sky."

Honestly, most months the themes for GLOSSYBOX, Birchbox, and other subscription services seem kind of forced to me.  The samples usually don't relate completely to the supposed theme.  The theme and samples this month for GLOSSYBOX felt that way to me.  None of these products particularly make me thing of a summer evening.  I could truly care less if the boxes I receive each month have a cohesive theme; I'd much rather receive an unrelated variety of great products than so-so products that evoke a gimmicky theme.  So even though I feel the samples this month don't reflect Summer Nights, I'm happy with the collection of products.

As I said, I'm pretty happy with the samples this month!  While I don't have color treated hair, I imagine the shampoo & conditioner will be very nourishing, so I'm excited to give them a try.  I am in a constant battle to keep my heels in shape and I'm looking forward to seeing if the Heel Rescue Balm works any small miracles on them.  The sweet geranium scent of the Figs & Rouge Balm is a little overpowering to me, but the balm is very moisturizing and absorbs quickly so I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it (and how adorable is that tin?).

 I'm probably most excited about the fragrance towelette (the sweet, fruity scent is right up my alley) and the Senna Cosmetics Shadow Trio.  I received the matte Shadow Trio and I'm very glad I did.  I own primarily pearl and shimmery shadows but have been wanting to add some matte shades to my collection.  The warm browns of this trio look like they'll be very flattering on the eye and the shadows themselves are nice and smooth.

Initially I'm really happy about the samples this month and I can't wait to try them all out!  I'll let you know what I think of them in more detail next month after I've had a chance to put them to use.

October 2012 GLOSSYBOX USA

The October GLOSSYBOX was focused around "Spa Luxe" products "designed to refresh and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit... ideal for creating a sense of well-being and the ultimate beauty oasis."

I was excited when I heard the October GLOSSYBOX would have a spa theme.  With the weather turning cold around this time of the year, my skin always goes a little crazy with adjusting to the new season, and I was looking forward to receiving some products to pamper myself.  This month I received a nice assortment of products both to pamper and to beautify myself.
